AKKA 5-Aside Street League Summer 2025

It is absolutely the best thing going. Period.

Imagine if every basketball court in America had goals, no adults coaching every move, and players of all ages just getting after it.  Well it exists (at least in Medford NJ)!

Freedom, experimenting, risk taking, failing and succeeding, and ultimately learning! Simply playing is a necessary part of player development and keeping that love for the game burning hot!

This is where the game lives and breathes.....The AKKA 5-Aside Street League!

  • Want to bring your entire club team? Just email us for more info at akkasoccer.com@gmail.com

Uniforms are optional. We’ll have colored bibs on hand if needed/desired.

Rosters/Carding - NONE.  This is a loose interpretation of a "league".  You can bring different players every week if you want.  Many teams rotate entire club squads to make sure they have enough numbers each week in contingency of vacation absences etc..

Referees - We’ll have “refs” to help manage time and keep players safe - These are not USYS officials, these are older players or coaches that will call fouls and balls out of play.  Their primary focus again is player safety and keep the games flowing.

Role of the coach - This is a Player and game centered environment.  Players are strongly encouraged to do their own subbing and coaching of themselves.  Adult coaches are NOT required BUT welcome as with the youngest players a little help subbing can be useful BUT we have to remember that kids are capable of managing these decisions especially if provided a little guidance and room to do so.

IMPORTANT - TENOR OF LEAGUE - This league is a great opportunity for your players to keep their foot on the ball in a low-stakes, super fun setting, absorbing some new ideas/skills, and strengthening bonds among teammates. This league exists for the players and their love of the game. WE DO NOT KEEP STANDINGS and this isn’t the World Cup. We need your help to let the players express themselves on the courts, solve problems on their own, and to play freely, without external pressures, particularly from the fans. Please ask your parents to watch and cheer, but DO NOT complain about referee calls and DO NOT coach from the sidelines. Medford Village is a 5 minute walk from the park with a great Main Street with breweries, eateries, and shopping so any parents who can’t handle enjoying watching their kids play and having fun should drop them off and take a walk into town and come back at the end of the night.
